I remember building little Tractor Trailers & Forklifts with Lego when I was a child and seeing great big Moving Trucks coming down my street (Atlas Van Lines)...  My Dad talked about Truck Driving and Forklifts (secretly I wondered if he was trying to send me away)...  He worked in the Cement / Surface Mining Industry for St. Mary's Cement...  

Jump ahead a decade, my first jobs were in Lumberyards, Warehousing & 3rd-Party Logistics: specifically Driving Forklifts...  Add another few years, in the early & mid-80's I had 2 Forklift Licenses (when that actually existed), my Dad paid for the courses...  

Add another 5 years in to the early 1990's I began to Teach/Train Forklift with my Trainers Certificate from the Raymond Corporation of Canada...  My "dive" into OH&S began around the same time when I saw co-workers being hurt: they had no training, warning or experience...  I joined the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) as the Worker Representative...  Training Forklift snowballed into Training MEWP's, WHMIS, TDG, Fall Protection and a number of other courses...  Add a couple more years, I was promoted into Management: Team Leader for Occupational Health & Safety / Training & Development with a large Warehouse & Distribution company: Supply Chain Management, the Canadian 3PL for Wal-Mart Canada...  We had 800 Employees full-time & depending on the season, up-to 200 Temporary Staff...  We operated 24/7/365 with a Fleet of 125 Forklifts...  At one point I had a staff of 4 Trainers that reported to me...  Add a couple years, I began to deliver Soft-Skills Managerial & Total Quality Concept/Management Courses (TQC/TQM)...  

Somewhere dribbled in this time-frame I'd ran my own small business in Outdoor Travel/Adventure Planning...   I also did a fair amount of Volunteer work: specifically with Highschool Students delivering the Young Worker Awareness Program (YWAP) for which I received 3 Awards.  This was a program where I would attend Ontario High Schools and deliver a 2.5 hour session on OH&S to Grade 10+ students...   I was also a Guest Speaker for 3-days on Young Workers and Equipment Safety, at the Annual OH&S Conference with the former IAPA...

Add another decade, I then had a few more Trainer-Level Credentials.  I also did a short-stint in Surface Mining at St. Mary's Cement (my Dad sure was happy about that)...  I spent 5 years Training at a Private Career College and was a Recognized Trainer by the Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities (MTCU), my Trainer Credentials & workplace experience was accepted as an alternate to Teachers College...

Add one more decade (or so), I've been working over 40yrs with over 30yrs of that time in OH&S / T&D...   I now have 16 Trainer-Level Certifications and can deliver over 50 Safety-Related courses & a number of non-safety related courses...  I have worked on both the Worker & Management sides of OH&S / T&D and have worked with some of the largest & well-known Safety Providers in Ontario.  I am also an Approved Trainer for Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training & Skills Development (MLITSD) Training Programs...

Now in 2019~2024 I have returned to Consulting & Training, renewed The Safety Cat business that I have owned over 23yrs.... 

I took a Leap-of-Faith and have stepped-into ISO Auditing: Specifically ISO 45001:2018 ~ Occupational Health & Safety Management.... 

I have also taken courses in ISO 9001 ~ Quality Management along with ISO 19011 ~ Management Systems...

In 2020 I participated on a 3-day course: ISO Integrated Management Systems, with attention to ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001...  

I am currently working with 8 Partner Safety Providers as I build my own client-base out of my new Home-Base in the beautiful small town of Beaverton, in Brock (Durham Region), Ontario...  

I have also retuned to the Young Worker forum delivering a variety of Safety & Non-Safety related programs in Southern & Central Ontario High-Schools under the Specialty-High-Skills-Major (SHSM) and Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Programs (OYAP)...

Starting in 2022, I became a member of Toastmasters International!

Toastmasters is present in 149 Countries with over 300,000 Members who seek to be better professional speakers & leaders...

I have earned my Certificate in Presentation Mastery, and am now working on Effective Coaching towards a designation as a Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM)...

I'm a Competent Trainer with a very "down-to-earth & real" style of delivery...    I use humour in my course delivery and I tell-it-as-it-is, I don't beat-around-the-bush... 

The name The Safety Cat was "born" out of a Teenage Nickname: not necessarily a complimentary one, but it stuck none-the-less.  TSC is a "modified" version...
